This narrow entrance opens into a cave large enough it once held more than 40 Apaches and their horses, all of whom were burned alive here in the 1870s by the Navajo whose camps they raided.
The ramp that leads down into the gorge is a remnant of a tourist attraction that once capitalized on the cave's morbid history.
